Amyloidosis 2025
Interactive Workshops and Meetings for Health Professionals and Patients
3rd May - 13th May
WELCOME
Welcome to the “Amyloidosis 2025” Workshop series.
These travelling educational and supportive workshops occur every 2 years and are designed to meet the clinical needs of the Australian amyloidosis community. They consist of tailored, separate workshops for health professionals, and, patients, families and carers.
The Health Professionals’ Workshop will provide updates on diagnostics, clinical assessment, treatment and research. The Patients, Families and Carers Workshop will focus on supportive care, health navigation and access to therapy.

There have been enormous advances in Amyloid Medicine treatments and diagnostics since the last AAN Workshop in 2023. In 2024 alone, Medicare programs opened for tafamadis for ATTR cardiomyopathy patients and patisiran for those with hereditary amyloidosis with neuropathy. The Medical Benefit Scheme now also funds "diagnostic" genetic testing to screen for hereditary genes in those with cardiac and nerve ATTR. In addition, the kindred of family members with hereditary amyloidosis now have access to funded "predictive" genetic testing for their family's gene variant.
We are honoured to announce the following international amyloid experts who will be contributing to our Workshop series:
Associate Professor Carol Whelan (Cardiologist, UK)
Professor Efstathios Kastritis (Haematologist, Greece)
Professor Yoshiki Sekijima (Neurologist, Japan)

The Health Professionals Workshop invites the amyloid medical community including specialists, GPs, allied health, researchers and trainees to share interdisciplinary progress and knowledge in clinical practice and research. The Patients, Family and Carers Workshops provide education, knowledge and support to empower and enable the receipt of the best treatment and care possible.
